Publish posts to VKontakte: wall post, story and clip
How to publish posts, pictures and videos to a VKontakte community from Craft: wall posts, stories, pinning, polls, scheduling, and why clips need personal access.
The VKontakte community you connected for funnels is also a publishing target: posts, pictures, stories and videos go to its wall from the Publishing page, at the time you choose and together with your other social networks.
⚠️ With a community key VKontakte only allows stories. Wall posts (text, photos, poll, pinning, editing, deleting) and clips can only be published with an admin's personal key. Until personal access is connected, the community takes stories in Publishing, and for a wall post Craft tells you exactly what's missing.
What you can publish#
- A wall post: text up to 16,384 characters, up to 10 pictures, a link (VK shows it as a card), files, a poll.
- A community story: a picture or a vertical video.
- A clip: a vertical video (Reels). It needs personal access, see below.
- A Craft carousel goes out as a post with the slide pictures in order.
How to connect#
- My accounts → VKontakte → connect the community with an access key. If it is already connected for funnels, it appears in Publishing on its own.
- When you create the key, tick “Wall”, “Photos”, “Documents” and “Stories” along with “Messages” and “Manage”. If something is missing, Craft tells you on the VKontakte screen which permissions are absent.
- Open Publishing, add pictures or text and pick the community among the accounts.
Post settings#
Under the VKontakte community in Publishing you get these settings:
- How to publish: post, story or clip. “Auto” decides by content: pictures and text become a post, a video becomes a clip or a story.
- Pin the post, turn comments off, author signature, “Advertising” label.
- No notification to subscribers: the post goes out quietly.
- Also as a story: the first picture or video goes to the community story too.
- Link in the post, first comment as the community, a poll (two options or more).
VKontakte has no text formatting: bold, italics and quotes don't work, the text goes out plain.
After it's published#
In the Publishing calendar a published post has buttons: edit the text, pin or unpin, close or open comments, delete from the wall. A story or a clip can only be edited or deleted in VKontakte itself.
Reels and video#
⚠️ VKontakte doesn't let a community key publish clips or videos in a post. Without personal access the video goes out as a community story, and the post card explains why.
To publish Reels as clips, connect personal access: My accounts → VKontakte → “Publishing posts” → “Connect personal access”. You sign in with your own VKontakte profile (you must be a community admin). The button appears once Craft has VKontakte sign-in enabled.
FAQ#
Can I post to my personal page? No, publishing goes to communities.
Why didn't my post go out? The reason is shown on the post card in plain words. Most often the key lacks permissions: create a new key with all permissions and connect the community again.
Can I schedule it? Yes, like for any network in Publishing. The time is in your time zone.
Can I publish from Claude or ChatGPT? Yes: the platform is called vk_group, options go in the vk block, and a published post can be changed with the vk_post_action tool.
