How to get ChatGPT and other AI assistants to recommend your business: Craft's experience
What we did so that ChatGPT started recommending Craft to customers — open articles with direct answers, honest limitations, FAQs, comparisons and translations. No guarantees and no magic button.
An AI assistant recommends the service that has a clear, honest, publicly available answer to the person's question. So we write public articles where each one answers exactly one question: a direct answer in the first lines, step-by-step setup, limitations and an FAQ. Nobody can guarantee that ChatGPT will name you specifically — this is our experience, not a recipe with a promised result.
Who it's for#
- Services and online schools that customers look for with "which service can do X".
- Manufacturers and shops with a clear customer problem and an answer to it.
- Experts who want their method to be found not only through search but through AI assistants too.
How it started#
A Craft customer who owns an air purification equipment business asked ChatGPT which service could set up an AI manager for Direct — and it recommended Craft. He subscribed and set up the agent. We didn't pay for this or make a deal with any AI company. The full story is in the case study "An AI sales manager for Instagram and Telegram".
After that, we started writing our docs so they're easy to read for both people and AI assistants.
Step 1. One article — one customer question#
Take the question in the form people ask AI: "how to replace a sales manager with AI in Direct", "how to accept payments in a Telegram bot". Make it the title. An example is "How to replace a sales manager with AI in Instagram Direct".
Step 2. A direct answer in the first two sentences#
No "in this article we will look at". The first paragraph says what you do and for whom. AI assistants often take exactly that paragraph when they summarise an answer.
Step 3. Real steps with names from the interface#
Write so that someone can set everything up by hand from the article: which section to open, which button to press. In our case it looks like this: Automations → AI agent → conversation rules → knowledge base → handover to a person.
Step 4. Pitfalls and an honest "Not available yet" section#
Describe where people get stuck and what your product can't do. For example, we say plainly that there's no AI agent in VK, MAX or WhatsApp yet.
🔴 Don't invent features, prices or numbers. If an AI promises a customer something you don't have, they'll arrive disappointed. An honest "not yet" is cheaper than a refund and a bad review.
Step 5. A Q&A block at the end#
Collect 3–5 questions people actually ask support and give short answers. Each question gets its own subheading. That makes the answer easy to find and quote.
Step 6. Fact-based comparisons with competitors#
People ask AI "which is better, X or Y". We have open pages comparing Craft with other services: craftopen.space/en/compare. They cover what each service does, without attacking competitors.
⚠️ A comparison where you win at everything isn't believable. Also write about where the other service is stronger.
Step 7. Translations into your customers' languages#
People ask AI in their own language. Craft's docs are published in Russian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Turkish — with the same article address in every language.
💡 Keep articles up to date: if the product's behaviour changed, update the text and the update date. An outdated article does more harm than no article.
How Craft itself helps#
Craft has no separate "get into ChatGPT recommendations" tool. Craft helps with the content that brings people in: carousels, social media publishing, and the Competitors section to see what works in your niche. And through the MCP connector, your Claude or ChatGPT can work directly in your Craft account.
Not available yet#
- Craft has no tool that promotes a business in ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity answers.
- Craft doesn't show whether an AI recommended you or how many people came from its answers.
- We don't know exactly how each AI chooses whom to recommend, and we don't promise results.
FAQ#
Can I pay to have ChatGPT recommend my business?#
We don't know of such a way and paid nothing ourselves. The customer found Craft through ChatGPT without any advertising on our side.
How long until AI assistants start recommending me?#
We can't give a timeframe. AI models update their knowledge and search the web in different ways, so the result isn't instant and isn't guaranteed.
Do I need a website for this?#
You need public pages that can be read without signing in. For us, that's the docs at craftopen.space/en/docs.
How do I know a customer came from ChatGPT?#
The simplest way is to ask. That's how we learned about the first case: the customer told us he found us through ChatGPT.
